haul is live on the App Store

We built a nutrition tracker that starts at the grocery store. Here's why — and how it works.

The problem with nutrition tracking

Every nutrition app in the App Store does the same thing: search a database, find your food, log it, and count calories. The workflow hasn't changed in 15 years.

And yet, over 90% of people who start tracking their food give up within two weeks. Not because they don't care about their health — because the process is tedious.

Search "chicken breast" and you get 47 results with different calorie counts. Do that three times a day, every day, and it's no wonder people quit.

Your receipt already has the data

Here's the insight behind haul: every time you buy groceries, you walk out with a receipt that lists everything you purchased. Every item on that receipt has known nutritional data — macros, micronutrients, everything.

haul connects the dots. Scan your receipt, and haul reads every line item, matches it to a nutrition database, and gives you a complete breakdown. One photo. Four seconds. No manual searching. Learn more about why receipt scanning changes the game.

Not just calories — quality

Most trackers stop at calories and macros. But 1,800 calories of pizza and 1,800 calories of a balanced meal are not the same — even though every calorie tracker treats them identically.

haul gives you a nutrition quality score from 0 to 100, based on:

  • Produce variety — how many different fruits and vegetables you're eating
  • Protein diversity — whether you're getting protein from multiple sources
  • Micronutrient coverage — tracking 14 essential micronutrients, not just the big three macros
  • Processing level — the ratio of whole foods to processed foods
  • Variety — how many different foods you eat in a week

One number that tells you if your diet is actually good — not just how much you ate. Read our deep dive into the nutrition score.

What else haul does

Receipt scanning is just the start. Once your pantry is filled, haul can:

  • Log meals from photos — snap a picture of your plate and haul matches ingredients from your pantry
  • Generate meal ideas — AI suggests recipes based on what you actually have
  • Track micronutrients — see which of the 14 essential micronutrients you're missing
  • Compete with friends — create squads, join challenges, climb leaderboards
  • Earn badges — 37 badges across 12 categories with Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers
  • Sync with Apple Health — see calories burned alongside calories consumed

Free to use

haul is free on the App Store. No paywall for core features. No ads. No data selling. See how haul compares to other tracking apps.

If you've ever given up on nutrition tracking because it felt like work, give haul a try. Scan your next receipt and see what happens.
